Essaouira

– the coastal town where the wind blows through your hair and peace fills your soul

There’s something truly special about Essaouira. While Agadir and Taghazout can feel energetic and bustling, Essaouira is more laid-back, creative, and a bit bohemian. It’s a city where time moves more slowly, the wind is always blowing (in a good way), and where you’ll quickly find yourself wanting to just hang out.

Surfing and sea air

There are lots of cute stalls in Essaouira!

Medina, art, and creative vibes

Essaouira’s old town (the medina) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site—and for good reason. The white walls with blue accents, the narrow streets, and the laid-back atmosphere make it one of the most delightful places to explore! Here you’ll find art galleries, small workshops, vintage shops, musicians on street corners, and cafés where you can easily end up sitting for hours.

Food, music, and evenings that blend together

The food in Essaouira is simple, fresh, and full of flavor. Seafood, in particular, plays a major role—often caught that very day right at the harbor. At many places, you can pick out your own fish and have it grilled on the spot. And of course, there are plenty of little spots with rooftop terraces ;-)

From Aourir, it takes about 2.5–3 hours by car or bus, and the journey itself is actually quite scenic—along the coast, through small towns, and with the sea as your constant companion. This makes Essaouira perfect for a weekend getaway or a day trip if you’d like to experience a different side of Morocco.
